Squash has a long tradition at Martlesham since the club was founded in the late 1970’s. It has achieved a high reputation in East Anglia and at one time had 3 county champions in its ranks, David Taylor, Mark Baggott and Bradley Ball. The Club has also run a National Super League team, captained by previously nationally and world ranked Bradley Ball and including top international players such as Nick Matthew, Wael El Hindi and Mohd. Azlan Iskandar.
The Club has teams playing in the Suffolk Squash League during the Winter season and the Essex and Suffolk League in the Summer. At present the Club enters teams into Division 1, 2 and 3 of the respective county leagues.
The Club Squash Leagues provide competition for all abilities, both mixed and ladies only. You can be entered into a league suitable for your standard of play without feeling out-of-your-depth and enjoy playing opponents of the same ability, particularly important when you are a beginner. The leagues are well supported and matches are played on a monthly basis.
Nine times Suffolk Champion Mark Baggott is the full-time professional squash coach at the Club. He is available for all levels of coaching throughout the week from Tuesday to Saturday. Individual or group sessions can be arranged for beginners, intermediate and advanced players. In addition, Mark runs ‘Team Training’ for more advanced players on a Saturday and the ever popular ‘Ladies Morning’ group coaching session on a Wednesday. Please contact Mark at the Club to discuss your needs on 01473 624707.
